Lily hasn't spoken much with Alice since the last issue of The Quibbler was released. To be fair, she's been actively avoiding Alice since the last issue of The Quibbler because she doesn't know what the hell to say to the woman. She considers Alice a friend, a fellow Order member who was just as frustrated by the physical restraints that pregnancy brought to fighting the good fight as she was, and at the same time as well. But lately stark differences between the two women's approach to justice were becoming clearer than they ever were, and Lily is certain that she can never look at Alice the same way again if the allegations in Xeno's article are true.

It would be rather difficult to avoid speaking to Alice at the moment, however, because she is sitting on Alice's couch, in Alice's home, and is watching Alice's son—Neville—playing with Harry. Perhaps playing isn't the right word to use, as playing implies mutual interaction. Neville mostly keeps to himself with a pile of building blocks while Harry presses his plush toy into Neville's shoulder, wanting attention.*

Neville seems to enjoy his blocks.

*Neville's been in a mood. This week all he wants is his father or nothing, which is fine...when Frank is home. The rueful smiles Alice has been giving are starting to wear thin, thanks to watching Harry hound Neville and her guess that Lily read the Quibbler.

Alice considers trying to pry the blocks away, but the fight would not be worth it. Instead she moves off the couch to go to the kitchen.*

Yeah, blocks are his new thing. Do you want a snack for you or Harry?

*Alice turns just in time to see Neville crawl away from Harry. She sighs and calls her apology from the kitchen.*

I'm sorry, Neville's been wanting only Frank this week. I can't even hold him. Would homemade pumpkin pasties do?

*Of all the bizarre questions...? Anyone who has seen Frank with Neville couldn't miss how adjusted and happy they are.*

No, no trouble at all. A lot less kipping on the twins' couch, but he doesn't seem to miss it much. And James?

*Alice puts the plate of pasties on the coffee table and sits down on the floor to feed Neville.*

*That felt like a hint. It's been about half a month since the article's come out and the dust is still settling. With no word on who leaked the file or who in the office talked, everything has been very quiet, but even still Amelia has copies of her cases to clear. The frustration is still lurking though, given that she still gets invoices from hate and fanmail at the office. All this gives Alice a shorter temper.*

Yes, I'm sure I do.

*She pauses, realising how curt that sounded, then tests the water. *

Generally they only ask you to do as much as you're willing.

*The frustration boils up, changing into anger almost immediately.*

If you read Lovegood's article, then say what you really want to, Lily.

That I what, Lily? That I did my job? You don't win wars playing nice. James is learning that now.

So then lying to the Ministry and purposefully disobeying him is acceptable? You can't have all the moral high ground, Lily. James does dirty work - that's what it is to be a spy. And now, because Crouch is a fan of that damn article, I have to be one too. We're not the same, but we're certainly not that different.

*It's a low blow, but the words tumble out quicker than Alice thinks them.*

And you've killed too.

*So many defensive arguments flash through Alice's head, it hurts. The fact that the people she killed were trying just as hard to kill her, just like Lily; the fact that Alice has no loyalty left to the Minister, ever since her time with Umbridge and James gave his information on the Secret Police; the fact that she knows exactly how it feels to torture and kill an innocent somebody, even if she never did it directly...*

Yes, I love Crouch so much that I gave that bastard Lovegood his credibility.

And I fucking care, Lily. A lot more than you do. I've sacrificed and lost more than you know, so you don't get to sit there in my house and judge me for what I've done to protect people like you.

Oh shut it.

I don't care about your stupid blood, you're a fucking civilian.

*Even now Alice can hear herself talking to Sirius in that pub so long ago, defending Lily and her actions in the war. But that doesn't matter to her. She is sick of this shit, and she won't have it in her house. Alice makes a mental note that Neville has crawled to the other side of the room rather than deal with their screaming, then returns to the fight.*

What have you done in this war? You, Lily, just you. Not Snape, not James - you. You've killed a Carrow and you've been loyal to the Order (except for when you hold back information because you just weren't ready).

Well, good for you, hope you're proud of yourself.
