I hope this letter finds you well. I understand we parted last on regrettable terms, and I sincerely apologise to you for my behavior.

I am writing to inform you that Evan has proposed marriage to me, and that I’ve gladly accepted. I am sure he regrets his failure to formally ask your blessing in advance, so it is my intention to request it on his behalf. I understand that there are ways in which I am an unsuitable addition to your family, but I hope you can put them behind you, as Evan has. I also understand that you and I have had our differences, but I hope that we can put them behind us, for Evan’s sake.

I find it necessary here to stress the sincerity of my intentions towards your son, and the depth of our feelings for one another.

*It takes a while for Diogenes to return, and when he does, he looks a bit frightened. The little red envelope flutters in almost innocently, like a dead robin carried in his' claws.
